The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 365 SCHUMAKER, Carl WWII Carl was born in Young, SK and he went to school at Farina and worked on the farm as a youth. Carl and his five brothers, Art, Jake, Egon, Rinhold and Otto, all enlisted in WWII, Carl serving overseas in the Army. Otto’s surname is spelled ‘Shoemaker’. Carl raised four children with his wife, Ethel, and he became a Baptist minister who mainly served areas in BC and later in the States. He did a stint of missionary work in Africa and has since passed away. SCHUMAKER, Egon WWII Egon was born in young, SK. He took his schooling at Farina and worked on the farm with the family. One of six brothers who enlisted for the service, he served in the Army overseas where he lost a leg. After his discharge, he moved to Alberta with his brother, Art. Egon lived and passed away there and he never married. SCHUMAKER, Jake WWII Jake was born in Young, Saskatchewan. He helped on the family farm and went to school at the Farina country school, south of Plunkett, SK. Jake and his five brothers served in World War II, Jake serving overseas in the Army. After his discharge, he married Lena and they raised three children. Jake farmed in Young all his life.
