The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 363 RUSSELL, W. Andrew “Andy” WWII Andy was born in 1918 and arrived in Viscount from Jansen in 1927. He graduated from a Viscount school in 1936, took Normal Training then taught at country schools until his enlistment in 1941. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, trained as a pilot in Canada and served in Canada, Ireland, England and India on the Burmese front. He retired in 1945 with the rank of Lieutenant and after his discharge, obtained his B.S.C.A. from the University of Saskatchewan. He worked as a Horticulturist and Potato Breeder in the Research Branch of Ag Canada for thirty-four years, retiring in 1982. After raising five children, Andy and Evelyn ‘Lynn’ are now living in Indian Head, SK. SCHULZ, Ewald Harry Frederick WWII Ewald was born on March 20, 1919 in Dummer, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp on June 24, 1941 and served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe until his discharge on January 11, 1946. For his service, Ewald received the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a member of Crooked River Branch 292 of The Royal Canadian Legion for over 30 years before he passed away on June 14, 1978. SCHUMAKER, Art WWII Art was born in Young, Saskatchewan and he took his schooling at the Farina country school, south of Plunkett, SK. Art and his five brothers enlisted for WWII, Art serving overseas with the Army. He and his brother, Egon, lived and worked in Alberta and he has since died. Art never married.
