The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 351 ROBBESTAD, David WWII David joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War II and served for a short time. He lived south of Viscount, Saskatchewan. ROBERTS (nee PEIRSON), Elizabeth “Betty” WWII Betty was born in 1923 to Fred and Lena Peirson, who had homesteaded at Invermay, SK. She went to school in Viscount, SK then worked at the Viscount egg candling station after graduation. She served as a Private in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during World War II, serving in Saskatchewan in Maple Creek, Regina, and Saskatoon, as well as in Victoria, BC. Her father and uncles had served in WWI. Betty met and married Mellville Orville Roberts of Windsor, Ontario, who was also in the Army. She stayed at her parents in Viscount until Mell’s discharge, after which they moved to Windsor, Ontario. Mell worked a few jobs then became meat manager for N & D Supermarket in Windsor. Betty and Mell raised three children. ROBERTS, John WWII John was born in Viscount, SK and went to school there. He and his brother, Stanley, and his sister, Kathleen, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, with John serving in Canada and overseas. After his discharge, he farmed for two years and in the winter, took university classes in Saskatoon, SK. In 1947, he began working for Massey Harris and he held various positions at many different locations. He retired in April 1982 and passed away a month later, in May. He raised three children with his wife, Alice Bittner.
