The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 335 PFEIL, Jacob John “Jack” WWII Jack was born on June 1, 1920 in Bruno, Saskatchewan. He attended the Kildrum county school, south of Bruno, and helped on the farm growing up. Jack and his brother, Roman, both enlisted in the Army, Jack serving as a Private in Germany with the Regina Rifles. He married Agnes Bulatowa, a war bride but on July 27, 1947, he drowned in the river while working for a farmer. PFEIL, Roman WWII Roman was born in Bruno, Saskatchewan on November 4, 1922. He attended the Kildrum country school, south of Bruno, and worked on the farm until the war. He joined the Army and served as a Private with the Regina Rifles in Germany, England and the Aleutian Islands during World War II. His brother, Jack, also enlisted. After his discharge, Roman became a carpenter in Saskatoon, SK and he retired there. With his wife, Elizabeth Becker, he raised six children and he died on August 3, 1983. PIATT, Leonard Ivory “Ike” WWI Ike was born on March 10, 1887 in Shelbyville, Indiana, USA. His father’s name was Simon Augusta Piatt and Ike started farming in the Viscount, SK area before enlisting in the Army in Saskatoon, SK on December 22, 1914. His brother, Stanley, also enlisted. Ike served as a Gunner in Europe where he was wounded in battle. After the war, he returned to Saskatchewan and started farming in the Hazel Dell area where he met and married an Easterlea school teacher. They went to England to live.
