The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 333 PETTIGREW, Thelma Maxine WWII Thelma was born in Dodsland, Saskatchewan on June 24, 1926, to Ada and Alvin Pettigrew. She enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in Toronto, ON in November 1944 and took basic training at HMCS Conestoga at Galt, ON. From there, she was transferred to HMCS Cornwallis, WRA. Her unit was transferred to Victoria, BC in early 1946, but she stayed on to help take stock at Cornwallis before being sent home to Vancouver for discharge. Thelma married Evert Holmstrom on July 1, 1947 and they had two sons, Harvey and Lyle. Thelma was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Wadena Legion Branch 62 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 39 ½ years and a member of Wadena Legion Branch 62 for 2 years. PFEIFER, Hector George WWII George was born on March 22, 1922 in Young, Saskatchewan and grew up on farms in various locations between Viscount and Young. During World War II, he served as a Private in the Army. His sister, May, also enlisted. George married Erma (Stahl) Assam and they raised two girls. He lives in Saskatoon, SK. PFEIFER, Violet May WWII May was born in young, Saskatchewan on May 8, 1924 and grew up on farms in various locations between Viscount and Young. She served as a Private in the Army with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps during World War II. Her brother, George, also enlisted. May married a farmer from Kyle, where they reside, and they raised three children.
