The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 325 OLSON, Magnus WWII Magnus was born in Churchbridge, Saskatchewan in 1918. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 28, 1941. He received Aero engine training until November 1942, proceeded overseas to England and was then posted to 429 Squadron (Heavy Bomber) #6. Magnus was honourably discharged on October 6, 1945 with the rank of Leading Aircraftman. He received the War Medal 1939-45, the Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Magnus was a member of RCL Foam Lake Legion Branch 16. He passed away in 1999. OSBORNE, Lewis Victor WWII Lewis was born on December 11, 1924 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Following the completion of his education and as a teenager, he answered the call by serving in the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Canada, England, France, Holland and Germany. Following June 6, 1944 and the Invasion of Normandy, the SSR as part of the 2nd Canadian Division, participated in many major Canadian battles. As a result, Lew saw action in such battles as Falaise, Antwerp, The Scheldt, The Hochwald, and The Rhine. For his service, he was awarded the War Medal 1939-45, the 1939-45 Star, and the France and Germany Star. Lew also served several months’ occupation duties following the end of hostilities in Europe. Lew passed away in Chilliwack, British Columbia on November 19, 2006. He was a long-time member of The Royal Canadian Legion. OSTERHOUT, Charles Morton “Charlie” WWII Charlie was born in Viscount, SK on June 27, 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served in England and France during World War II. His three brothers, Forbes, Floyd and Keith, also enlisted. Charlie was discharged in 1945 and later raised seven children with his wife, Edna Smith. He had a varied work career, including farming in the Viscount area for a time, and then working at the Colonsay Co-op. After attending St, Andrew’s College in Saskatoon, SK, he became a United Church minister. Charlie passed away in Saskatoon on June 19, 2007.
