The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 323 OLDS, Herman WWII Herman was born on January 2, 1899 in Plymouth, Ohio. He came with his family to a homestead near Naicam, Saskatchewan in 1910. He married Miss Winnifred Kellington in 1925 and they had four daughters. They farmed for several years and then bought the Royal Hotel in Pathlow, Saskatchewan. He enlisted as a Private in the Canadian Army (Active) on December 8, 1941 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and completed basic training at the #131 Canadian Army (Basic) Training Centre in Camrose, Alberta, going on to serve in Barriefield, Ontario. Herman was released in June 1944. He was a Charter Member and a Life Member of RCL Pathlow Branch. He passed away on December 26, 1996 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and is interred in Naicam Cemetery. OLSON, Clarence Morris WWII Clarence was born in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota on March 16, 1911. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on May 13, 1943 and did his basic training in Maple Creek, BC and his advanced training for the Royal Canadian Engineers in Chilliwack, BC. He was then sent to Germany and posted to the Lake Superior Regiment. He was involved in the European Campaign and travelled across Europe during the invasions of France, Belgium and Germany, ending up in Holland when it was liberated. After he was discharged on March 21, 1946, he moved back to Loon Lake and farmed until he retired. He was very active in Loon Lake Legion Branch 165 for over 39 years, and became a Life Member. Clarence passed away on February 13, 1999. OLSON, Lester Howard WWII Lester was born in Kuroki, Saskatchewan in 1921, the son of Helen and Fredrick Olson. He was 17 years old when he quit school to travel north to work on the railroad. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the Canadian Army and went overseas. He took part in the street to street fighting in the Italian Campaign, marched across France, and spent one year in the Army of Occupation. He was discharged in 1945 and received the 1939-45 Medal, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Lester moved to British Columbia, where he was employed as a correction officer. He married Janet Bowser and they moved to Maple Ridge, and had two beautiful daughters (Norma and Shirley) and three grandchildren. Lester passed away in 2005, and Janet passed away in 2008. Lester had been a member of Maple Ridge Legion Branch in British Columbia.
