The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 303 MOEN, Harald WWII Harald was born on August 3, 1920 in Viscount, SK where he also attended school. He took part in many sports and worked on the farm before enlisting with his brother, Carl. Harald joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and served in radar in North Africa and was a substitute drinking-water truck driver in Burma. After his discharge in 1945, he obtained his Bachelor of Physics degree at the University of Western Ontario in London, ON and a Master’s degree in Radio Physics at McGill University in Montreal, QC. He held various jobs, did secret work for the government, and was employed by Marconi Corp, a Division of Atomic Energy, and consulted in cancer therapy. He married Beatrice Andersen and they raised one son. Harald died on November 18, 1996. MOEN (nee YOUNG), Rachel Jean WWII Rachel was born in Viscount, SK and went to school there. She attended Technical College in Saskatoon prior to enlisting in the Women’s Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and serving as a clerk accountant at several Royal Canadian Air Force bases across Canada. After her discharge in Nova Scotia in 1945, she worked as an office manager at Mills Brothers Women’s Store in Halifax. Rachel married Carl Moen and they raised four children, living where her husband’s career took them, to various locations across the United States. Rachel is currently living in Texas near her family. MORELLI, Edward Julius “Ed” WWII Ed was born in Plunkett, SK on July 12, 1918. Ed and brother, Jim, and first cousins Helen (Stogran) and John Morelli all enlisted. Ed joined the Army on March 12, 1942 and served as a Private with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Canada, France, England, Belgium and Holland. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, and the 1939-1945, as well as the Meritorious Service Medal in 1990 and the 60th Anniversary Dutch Remembrance Medal. Ed farmed in the Viscount district all his life and raised four children with his wife, Lionne Crowe. Ed retired to Saskatoon, SK where he died on October 29, 2006. He was very active in the BPO Elks and was a Life Member of RCL Viscount Branch 271.
