The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 293 McLEAN, Howard Eggert WWII Howard was born on August 30, 1916 in Elbow, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with the Postal Corp in London, England from 1942 to 1945. Upon discharge, Howard moved to Trail, British Columbia, where he worked for Cominco for a short time, until 1947, when he joined Canada Post in Trail. He retired from Canada Post as postmaster in Maple Ridge in 1976. Howard was a Life Member of Maple Ridge Branch 88 in British Columbia before he passed away on March 1, 2006. MELNICK, Joseph “Joe” WWII Joe was born in Plunkett, SK. Because his mother, Catherine, had died when he was young, he and Nick lived with their aunt, Mary Zurko, in Plunkett where he took his early schooling. Joe and his brothers, Steve and Nick, all enlisted. After the war, Joe was in the construction business in Ontario, first in London then later in Ancaster until he retired in 1983. MELNICK, Steve WWII Steve was born in New Jersey, USA but attended the Lucasville country school. He and his brothers, Joe and Nick, all enlisted in the Army and served in World War II. Steve married, raised two children, and died in Vancouver in 1963. Melnyk is the original spelling of his surname.
