The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 289 McCRAE, James “Gordon” WWI Gordon was born in Riceville, Iowa, USA on September 1, 1895 to Francis and Annie McCrae. The family moved to Canada in 1910 and homesteaded near a country post office in Stone, Saskatchewan. Although he was the only boy, having seven sisters, Gordon felt it was his duty to enlist, which he did on May 16, 1916. He served in Canada, spent time in England, and fought in France with the “C” Coy. 9th Platoon, 10th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment). He was killed on February 14, 1918, at age 22, while erecting a wire entanglement when the enemy fired with heavy artillery without warning. He was very faithful in writing home to his family, and he had won a place in the hearts of his comrades. McGONIGAL, Isaac WWII Isaac was born on June 21, 1904 at Craignahorn, Port Stewart District in the Coleraine area of Northern Ireland. He and his wife, Eliza, came to Canada in 1929 with their four young children. They farmed in the Red Jacket area and were known for their large family of 20 children. Isaac served in the Army from 1940 to 1943, and was posted at Dundurn, Saskatchewan. For his service, Isaac was awarded the War Medal 1939-45 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and was discharged with rank of Lance Corporal. Besides farming, Isaac worked for the Provincial Parks when they were being developed in Moosomin and Kenosee Lake. He and Eliza retired to Moosomin. Isaac passed away on December 31, 1983. Eliza is also deceased, and they are both buried in South Cemetery, Moosomin. McINTYRE, John Brodie “Jack” WWI Jack was born in Campbeltown, Scotland on March 23, 1893. With his brother, Archie, he came to Saskatchewan in 1907 to homestead in the Viscount area. He was a shipper by trade prior to being drafted in the Army in Regina on October 3, 1917. He served with 12 M.D. 1st Depot Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment and he was killed in action. Jack’s father was Alexander.
