The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 283 MAGUIRE, James Frankish WWII James was born to James and Bertha Maguire on May 6, 1915 in Colonsay, SK. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 29, 1940 in Edmonton, AB and served as a Flight Lieutenant with the 37th Squadron in Canada and in the Mediterranean. He and six other crew members were reported missing and were presumed to have died on September 14, 1942 when his Wellington was lost near Lagos, Nigeria (West Africa). Having no known grave, James’ name is inscribed on the Malta Memorial in Valetta. He left a wife, Bernice Luella, in Edmonton, SK. James was awarded the Air Observer’s Badge on February 2, 1941 as well as the 1939-45 Star, the African Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. MAGUIRE, Lloyd Victor WWII Lloyd joined the Army on July 2, 1940 and served as a Lance Corporal in Canada, England, France and Germany with the RC Signal Unit. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, and the Defence Medal. After his discharge on September 28, 1945, he lived in Viscount, SK and worked as a mechanic. He was a member of RCL Viscount Branch 271 and was originally with the Collingwood Branch 48 in Vancouver, BC. MARKLEY, David WWI David was born on April 15, 1883 in Halifax, NS. He was a bookkeeper by trade prior to enlisting in Lanigan, SK on March 25, 1916 and had also served with the 66th Battalion of the Princess Louise Fusiliers in Halifax. David married Katherine Hare from Halifax then homesteaded in the Badger, SK district in 1909. Six months later, Katherine and their firstborn came west. They raised seven children. His two sons, Lyall and John, enlisted in WWII. David died in 1926 and is buried in the Viscount Cemetery in Saskatchewan.
