The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 265 KOOB, Arnold Joseph WWII Arnold was born on June 9, 1920 in Viscount, SK where he helped on the family farm and attended Lucasville School. He joined the Army on February 5, 1942 and served with the Prince Albert Volunteers in various Canadian posts. He was discharged on January 28, 1946, after which he farmed east of Meacham, SK. After raising three children with his wife, Helen Gruel, he retired and they moved to Bruno, SK. Arnold was a natural born ‘fixer’ so he built a shop for his woodworking and repaired anything that needed repairing. He was very active in the community and served on various boards but he was most involved with the Pioneer Thesherman’s Club. Arnold died on November 20, 2002. KOOB, Daniel Charles “Dan” PEACETIME Dan was born in Meacham, SK in 1935. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1956 and served five years in electronics as part of the ground crew in Canada and Langar, England, where he spent two years. Discharged in 1964, he taught electronics in Tech in Saskatoon and then set up his own electronics business. He is a cousin to Arnold Koob. Dan raised six children with his wife, Helen Matterson. He died on March 6, 2004. KOOB, Phillip “Phil” WWII Phillip was born on December 14, 1916 in Meacham, SK. Phil grew up in the Lucasville district and went to school in the area. He joined the Army in 1940 and served as a Lance Corporal and a firearms and driver instructor with the Edmonton Fusiliers on Vancouver Island. Discharged in 1944, he married Irene Kiss and they raised one child. Phil was an elevator agent for a time then was in the plumbing business in Saskatoon until he retired. He passed away at the Meadow Green Care Home in Saskatoon on October 20, 2009.
