The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 259 KNUTSON, Oscar Garfield WWII & PEACETIME Oscar was born to Carl and Edna (Larson) Knutson in Naicam, SK on August 12, 1920. He enlisted as Aircraftman in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Regina, SK on November 11, 1941. After basic training in Brandon, MB, he was posted overseas on January 1943 where he served at several stations in England, Holland and Germany. He returned to Canada and was released in Calgary, AB on December 20, 1945. Oscar re-enlisted as Aircraftman in the RCAF in Victoria, BC on April 7, 1954 and went on to serve at stations in Edmonton, AB; Rivers, MB; and Comox, BC. He retired on October 28, 1968 and now makes his home in Courtenay, BC where he has celebrated his 90th birthday. Oscar is a member of RCL Comox Branch 160. KNUTSON, Palmer Clifford WWII Palmer was born to Carl and Edna (Larson) Knutson on February 8, 1910 in Spalding, SK. He enlisted as Private in the Canadian Army (Active) in Calgary, AB on November 18, 1941. He was posted overseas and served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in Britain, Sicily and Northwest Europe. He was with Transport Company of the 5th Canadian Armoured Division in Holland when on August 17, 1945, an accident forced his truck into a canal and he drowned. Palmer is buried in the Canadian War Cemetery at Holten, The Netherlands. Knutson Lake, the geo-memorial in northern Saskatchewan, perpetuates Palmer’s sacrifice. KNUTSON, Vincent Harold WWII Vincent was born in Swift Current, SK to Caleb Hiram and Margaret (Pearson) Knutson of Lac Vert, SK on September 18, 1921. He enlisted as Aircraftman in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Saskatchewan when World War II broke out. After initial training, he earned his navigator wings and was posted overseas. Vincent was a Flight Sergeant on a sortie in a Wellington bomber when it was shot down over the English Channel on February 23, 1943. He is commemorated on the Air Forces Runnymede Memorial in Surrey, England. The northern Saskatchewan geo-memorial, Knutson Lake, perpetuates Vincent’s sacrifice.
