With his brother, Chandler, he joined the Army and served during World War II. KNUTSON, John Leonard WWII John was born to Ole and Marie (Olsen) Knutson on November 4, 1914 in Spalding, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps in Saskatoon, SK at the outbreak of World War II. He served overseas from June 1942 to December 1945. John died in Calgary, Alberta on April 26, 2011. KNUTSON, Melvin Theodore “Mellie” WWII Mellie was born to Carl and Edna (Larson) Knutson on October 23, 1915 in Spalding, SK. He enlisted as Aircraftman in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Regina, SK on January 21, 1941. He served as a drogue operator in Canada, mostly at bases in British Columbia, and was released on November 1, 1945. Mellie died in a drowning accident near Prince George, BC on May 16, 1953.
