The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 249 KIDNEY, Alvin Eric WWII Alvin was born in Davidson, Saskatchewan on February 18, 1918 to Alex and Mary Kidney of Sylvania, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in June 1940 and received his wings as a wireless Air Gunner in February 1944. He was promoted to Sergeant and went overseas in March 1944. Alvin was killed in active service on August 11, 1944 when two bombers collided in midair at Evesham, England. He is buried in the Canadian Cemetery at Brookwood near Aldershot, England. KIDNEY, Samuel Robert “Sam” WWII Sam was born in Davidson, Saskatchewan in 1922 to Alex and Mary Kidney of Sylvania, Saskatchewan. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served overseas and in England as an aircraft mechanic during World War II. For his service, he was awarded the leading Aircraftman 1939-45, the Africa Star, the Italy Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-45. Sam was a member of RCL Sylvania Branch 54. He passed away of cancer in 1992. KILBREATH, Clifford Mylo “Cliff” WWII Cliff was born on March 17, 1918 in North Battleford, SK to Mylo and Nellie (Kellington) Kilbreath. On January 21, 1944, he enlisted as a Private in an infantry regiment in Regina, SK and completed basic training in Ontario at Camp Borden and Peterborough. Cliff went to Halifax, NS, expecting to go overseas but was removed from the reinforcement draft due to a medical condition. He transferred to the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, spent the rest of the war in Halifax and was released in Regina on April 13, 1946. Cliff passed away on May 23, 1991 in Vernon, British Columbia.
