The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 23 BEATON, Hartley William “Bill” WWII Bill was born in Viscount, SK. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served overseas in 1942. After his discharge, he married Irene Broatch and attended the University of British Columbia where he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree. He worked for Canadian Fishing Co. for six years, then for a medical insurance company. In 1964, they moved to Ottawa and were there until retirement. They now live in White Rock, BC. Bill’s brother, Jack, enlisted during peacetime. BEATON, John “Jack” PEACETIME Jack began his education in Viscount, SK, where he was born, and finished up in Vancouver, B.C. where the family had moved. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951 and went overseas in 1953, where he met and married Miriam Hopkins in England. One daughter was born there and two sons were born in New Brunswick. In 1962, after Jack left the service, they moved to the Vancouver area to live and work. Jack and his brother, Bill, (WWII) both enlisted. BEATON, Lloyd Donald WWI Lloyd was born on May 18, 1895 in Glamis, ON and was working as a hardware clerk before going west with his mother and family in 1911 to join his dad, Walter. Lloyd joined the Army in Regina, SK in November 1915 and served as first machine gun in France and Belgium from 1916-18, and in Germany with the Army of Occupation after peace had been signed. After his discharge in May 1919, he worked for Imperial Oil Co., and then Pioneer Grain Co. until they left Viscount, SK in 1956. He was a charter member of the Viscount B.P.O. Elks Branch 161 and RCL Viscount Branch 271. Vancouver became home where he worked for Royal Trust until his death in 1963. Lloyd and his wife, Elise, raised two children.
