The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 241 KELLINGTON, Robert Thomas “Bert” WWI Bert was born on July 3, 1889 in Ringwood, ON to Daniel David and Elizabeth (Tinney) Kellington. He was enrolled as a Private on June 20, 1918 with the Eastern Ontario Regiment at Barriefield, ON and was posted to the Canadian Machine Gun Depot in Seaford, England that same year. At war’s end, he returned to Halifax, NS and was released as a Corporal on June 25, 1919. He took up a Saskatchewan homestead near Robinhood and farmed there the rest of his life. Bert passed away on December 3, 1959 and is interred in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Robinhood. KELLINGTON, Ronald Carl “Ron” PEACETIME Ron was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on February 19, 1931 to Carl James and Grace (Jamieson) Kellington. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in Regina, SK on September 10, 1948 as Ordinary Seaman. He completed basic training at HMCS Naden in Esquimalt, BC and was posted onboard the light-cruiser HMCS Ontario (C-53). He went on to serve at HMCS Unicorn in Saskatoon, SK and returned to Esquimalt to serve onboard HMCS Beacon Hill and the frigate HMCS Antigonish (K-661). Ron took voluntary release at HMCS Naden on July 29, 1953. KELLINGTON, Stanley Emerson “Stan” PEACETIME & SPECIAL DUTY AREA Stan was born on December 14, 1941 in Naicam, SK to Emerson Bristol and Ethel Lenora (Knutson) Kellington. On September 2, 1959 in Regina, SK, he enlisted as a Private in Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. After training in Edmonton, AB and Chilliwack, BC, he was posted to the regiment’s Second Battalion in Edmonton, earning his parachute wings in March 1961 at Canadian Joint Air Training Centre in Rivers, MB. He served with 2 PPCLI in Germany, Winnipeg and UN Cyprus. In 1970, he was remustered to administration and then went on to serve in Edmonton and Victoria onboard HMCS Gatineau, in Germany with the Royal Canadian Dragoons, in The Netherlands with HQ Allied Forces Central Europe, Winnipeg and Canadian Forces Communications Command HQ Ottawa. While with FCENT HQ, he was introduced to Queen Beatrix. After nearly 36 years regular force service, Stan retired in Ottawa on July 31, 1995. From 1997 to 2000, he was the Sergeant-Major of the National Army Cadet Summer Training Centre at Banff and Cochrane, AB. Stan is a member of RCL Kingsway Branch 175.
