The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 233 KAMINSKI, Joseph Cecil “Joe” WWII Joe was born in Brooksby, Saskatchewan in 1922. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 at the age of nineteen and spent five years with F Troop F.A., 11th Field Battery, 15th Field Regiment in England, France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. He served as a Gunner, a bugler, was on the motorcycle brigade and was part of D-Day 4 on Juno Beach in Normandy, France. Returning home to a hero’s welcome in 1946, Joe received the War Medal 1939-45, the France and Germany Star, the 1939-45 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the Defence Medal. He married Mary Ann Miazga, raised five children, farmed in the Brooksby district and was also a successful businessman. He was a member of RCL Saskatoon Branch 63 and Melfort Branch 30. Joe died in 2009 at the age of eighty-seven. KELLER (nee STENSRUD), Lillie Muriel WWII Lillie was born in Meacham, SK on April 13, 1916. She joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in 1940 and served as a clerk in Ottawa, Canada. Discharged in 1946, she was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Honourary Discharge Medal 1940-46. Lillie’s three siblings, Merle, Roy and Wallace, also enlisted as did her brother-in-law, Harvey Potts. She married Ken Keller after the war and moved to Toronto, ON with their daughter, Gardelle. Lillie died on December 15, 1988. KELLINGTON, Clifford William “Cliff” WWII Cliff was born to Thomas and Mabel (Hewlitt) Kellington on April 14, 1916 in Grayburn, SK. He enlisted as Aircraftman in the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 16, 1942 in Regina, SK, completing initial training in Moose Jaw, SK and trades training in Brandon, MB and St. Thomas, ON. He served on airbases in Lethbridge, AB; Assiniboia and Swift Current, SK; and was posted to Calgary, AB in December 1945. He was released in Calgary on January 25, 1946. Cliff passed away in Regina on January 15, 2000 and is buried in the Regina Memorial Gardens Cemetery. He was a member of RCL Regina Branch 1 and is a recipient of the RCL Fifty-Year Medal.
