The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 21 BARRY, John Reginald “Reg” WWII Reg was born on a farm in Young, SK on June 8, 1921 and then the family moved to Vancouver, BC. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in June 1941 and was a bomber, serving as a Warrant Officer in England before transferring to Belgium. Transport Command posted him to Norway until his discharge in November 1945. Reg received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Overseas Medal, Victory in Europe and the France and Germany Star. After the war, he attended the University of British Columbia, taught at elementary and high schools and became a Principal at an elementary school in Delta, BC. Reg and his wife, Thérèse Guichon, raised three daughters and he is now retired and living at White Rock, BC. His three brothers, Ed, Bob and Walter, also enlisted. BARRY, Robert William “Bob” WWII Bob was born in Saskatoon, SK on April 22, 1911 and raised on a farm north of Young, where he went to school. The family moved to BC when he was older. Bob was a Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Air Force and a Flight Engineer for six years, serving in Quebec and Prince Rupert, BC. His three brothers, Ed, Reg and Walter, also enlisted. After his discharge, he worked as a car salesman for GM in Vancouver. Bob and his wife, Gwen Protheroe, had no children. He retired to Victoria, BC where he passed away in May 2002. Bob received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. BARRY, Walter Nicholas WWII Walter was born in Saskatoon, SK on October 13, 1917 and raised on the family farm north of Young, where he also attended school. The family later moved to BC. Walter moved back to Saskatchewan to work with the Canadian National Railway and then joined the Army in Saskatoon, serving as a Private in BC. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. After his discharge, he came back to Prince Albert, SK to continue working with the CNR until he retired. Walter and his wife, Olga, raised four girls and one son. He was a member of RCL Prince Albert Branch and had a full Legion funeral.
