The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 225 HRYNKIW, Paul WWII Paul was born in Poland in 1924. On April 7, 1943, he joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve and served as an Antiaircraft Gunner on the Corvette ‘Mayflower’ in Canada, in the British Channel and in the Atlantic. Discharged on November 20, 1945, he was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Atlantic Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. His brother, Walter, also enlisted. Paul raised a son with his wife, Edith Coldham, and he operated a café and store in Plunkett before being employed by the Department of Highways in Rosetown, where he now lives. Hockey and baseball were his sports of choice. Paul was a member of RCL Viscount Branch 271. HRYNKIW, Walter WWII Walter was born in Poland in 1922. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on September 22, 1941 and served as a Flying Officer in Canada, England and Europe. His brother, Paul, also enlisted and served in World War II. Walter received the 1939-45 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After his discharge on April 20, 1945, he operated a general store for twenty-six years. While in Plunkett, he curled, played ball, coached ball teams and served as mayor from 1966-1972. Walter raised a family of four with his wife, Chris Danielson, and after retiring to Saskatoon, started selling novelties and such to the surrounding area. He was a member of RCL Viscount Branch 271. HUNTER, Earl Robert PEACETIME Earl was born in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan on May 20, 1936. He joined the Canadian Regular Army on December 10, 1954 in Regina, SK and served as a Gunner in Canada and Continental Europe. He was honourably discharged on December 22, 1963 at Camp Gagetown, NB. Earl was a member of RCL Hodgeville Branch 325 for forty-seven years. He died in 2011.
