The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 19 AVERY, William Henry BOER WAR William was born on November 5, 1877 in Devonshire, England. He enlisted in the British Army in 1895 and served as a Private with the Second Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry until 1903. He was a veteran of the Boer War in South Africa. He immigrated in 1914 to a homestead near Marquis, Saskatchewan with his children and his wife, Lilla. William passed away on November 4, 1963 in New Westminster, BC. BAPTIST, Harold Douglas WWII Harold was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on June 9, 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with the Engineering Corps in Europe, including France, Germany, and Holland. He was a member of RCL Melfort Branch 30 for fifty-one years. Harold died in 2007. BARRY, Edward Henry “Ed” WWII Ed was born in Saskatoon, SK on June 30, 1917 and was raised on the family farm northeast of Young. His parents paid for the children to go to Young (McClellan School). After joining the Army in British Columbia in 1942, he served as a Private and was a transport driver in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. After his discharge, he remained in BC and drove a delivery truck for the T. Eaton Co. in Vancouver until his retirement. With his wife, Joan Murray, he raised two children. Ed received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.
