The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 207 HILL, Arthur J. WWII Arthur was born in Jansen, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in 1939, served in Canada and was a Private when he left the service in 1945. Arthur married. HILTS, Maynard Ambrose Jenkins PEACETIME Ambrose was born on September 15, 1936 in Foam Lake, SK. In May 1958, he enlisted at HMC Unicorn in Saskatoon, SK for a 5year stint in the Navy. He did his basic training in Cornwallis, NS then was sent to HMC Naden in Esquimalt, BC. After completing a radar plotters course, he was assigned to the destroyer HMCS St. Laurent and was fortunate enough to go to Japan and China. He served on two other destroyers, HMCS Fraser and HMCS Margaree. He finished his navy career as a Leading Seaman, trade group 2. After returning to Regina, SK, he became a barber, married, and had two sons and four grandsons. He retired with his wife after forty-five years in the hair business and they now live in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Ambrose has been a member of RCL Foam Lake Branch 16 for forty-nine years. HILTS, William Louis WWII William was born in August 1916 in the Fishing Lake area of Milligan Bridge, near Wadena, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in Regina, SK in 1942 and served as a Gunner (Gnr), a Private (FBTY) and a Lance Corporal (Canadian Artillery Training Centre) in England and Holland. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Good Conduct Badge in August 1944. He returned to the farm in 1946 and married Phyllis Hilts from Kuroki, SK. They raised a family of five. Bill was a long time member of RCL Wadena Branch 62. He died at home in 1977 at the age of sixty.
