The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 177 HAMILTON, Louis S. WWII Louis was born in Sidney, Nova Scotia on February 20, 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on July 18, 1941 and was a Flying Officer when he left the service. Louis married. HANNIGAN, Ernest Garth “Garth” WWII Garth was born on July 17, 1918 in Viscount, SK and attended school there. He worked on the farm then went to Welland, Ontario in 1942 and attended Business College for six months before signing up. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy on the hospital ship Lady Nelson until the war was over. After his discharge, he returned to the farm at Viscount and in 1951, he moved to Big River where he specialized in hog farming. He retired in 1977 married Ellen Philstrom in 1981. HANSON, Freeman Osborn WWII Freeman was born in Broderick, Saskatchewan on November 27, 1918. He joined the Army on May 12, 1942 and served with the Military Police, 42 Provost Co. in Canada, England, Holland, Italy, France, Belgium, and Germany. He was on the Honour Guard when the King of England visited Italy and also guarded Canada House. He was wounded in Germany by a land mine and recovered in England prior to being discharged on July 23, 1945 as a Lieutenant Corporal. Freeman was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. With his wife, Sylvia, he farmed near Hanley, SK for more than fifty years. He was a member of RCL Hanley Branch 258 for twenty-one years and he died on March 5, 2011.
