The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 171 HAGAN, S.E. PEACETIME S.E. Hagan was born on December 25, 1930 in Verwood, Saskatchewan. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on August 25, 1952 and served on HMCS Naden and Ontario. He left the service in March 1955. He married. HALE, Arthur “Art” WWI Art was born on September 14, 1897 in Urchfont, Wiltshire, England. He joined the British Army on September 14, 1916 and served as a Private in India with the 1/6 Sask. Surry Rift. His twin brother, Bert, had also enlisted in the Army. Art was discharged on April 25, 1920 and was awarded the British War Medal. He had belonged to the British Legion originally. After his discharge, Art worked as a farm labourer upon his return to England but sailed for Canada, arriving in Plunkett, SK in April 1924. He worked for other farmers before starting to farm for himself. He raised eight children with his wife, Ethyl Williamson and was a member of RCL Viscount Branch 271. HALE, Herbert Victor “Bert” WWI Bert was born in Urchfont, Wiltshire, England on September 14, 1897. He joined the British Army and served in India during World War I. His twin brother, Art, also served in the British Army. Bert came to Canada in 1927 and worked in Saskatchewan on various farms in the Plunkett and Viscount areas. He married Minnie McWillie and raised seven children. The family moved to the Kamsack, SK area where he worked on a dairy farm and then did construction work in that area. Bert and Minnie retired there.
