The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 167 GWIN, Donald C. WWII Donald was born in Bateman, Saskatchewan on July 26, 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on July 26, 1945 and served in Canada and Europe. He was a Sergeant when he left the service on July 26, 1973 and was awarded the Canadian Decoration and Bar. Donald married Louise Gwin. GWIN, Louise WWII Louise was born in Sunny Brae Tappen, BC on December 19, 1923. She enlisted on June 30, 1942 in the Women’s Division. She served in Canada and left the Royal Canadian Air Force on September 20, 1945 as Leading Airwoman. Louise married Donald Gwin. GWYNN, Henry Betton “Hank” WWII Henry was born in Punnichy, SK on November 10, 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 13, 1940, trained as a wireless gunner and was posted to RAF Bomber Squadron 221, flying Wellington bombers out of Malta in the Mediterranean. He made 41 bombing sorties between April and November 1943. On one occasion, his plane became lost and had to land on the African coast near Tunis. Another time, his aircraft was shot up by a German destroyer and the navigator was badly injured. Hank remained uninjured throughout the war. He was a Flight Lieutenant when he left the service on July 23, 1945. He attended Business College then served thirty years as postmaster at Punnichy, Outlook and Esterhazy. Henry married and had two daughters. He was engaged in community matters for the Punnichy United Church, Punnichy Red Cross, Outlook United Church, Salvation Army, and helped plan and organize an Outlook nursing home. He also served as treasurer of the Outlook and Esterhazy Legion branches.
