The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 145 GILES, Kathleen WWII Kathleen was born on May 26, 1919 in MacNutt, Saskatchewan. She joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps (CWAC) on October 8, 1941 and served in Canada and Northwest Europe. She was a Private when she left the service on February 23, 1946. Kathleen married. GILEWICZ, Andrew Paul “Andy” PEACETIME Andy was born on December 13, 1913 in Candiac, SK. He enlisted in Regina on April 12, 1951 and served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry until hegot themeasles.Afterwards, hewasposted to theRoyal CanadianArmyService Corps as a clerk, serving at various locations in Canada. He also served in the reserve RCAF Squadron 702 as Pilot Officer and was a Corporal when he left the service inRegina onApril 26, 1954.Andywas a chartered accountant, first working as an accountant controller in industry then joining the City of Saskatoon as controller and director of finance. Since retiring, he has done contract consulting with the Federal Business Development Bank. He has been treasurer of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church and treasurer of Elmwood Residences Ltd. He married and had five sons and two daughters. GILKINSON, Glenn “Gilk” WWII Glenn was born on June 6, 1924 in Pasadena, California. He enlisted in Saskatoon in February 1942 and served with the 7th Reconnaissance Regiment (17 Duke of York’s Royal Canadian Hussars) in the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe. He became a wireless operator trained for special service during the Normandy invasion and was posted temporarily to the Queen’s Own Rifles as their radio operator. He rejoined the Duke of York Regiment in Normandy and remained with them through the rest of the war. He was wounded twice and left the service in Winnipeg in 1946 as a Trooper. After the war, he attended the University of Saskatchewan for one year and farmed for nine years at Ritchey, near Eston, SK. Then he joined Canadian Forestry as a technologist in plant pathology working in the northern forest belt out of Saskatoon. Ten years later, he joined Canada Agriculture as an entomology technician. Glenn married and divorced after one son and one daughter.
