The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 141 GIBB, Ernie WWII Ernie was born in Viscount, SK and was still living as of May 2009. He joined the Army and his brother, Charlie, also signed up for military service. He was a grain buyer for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool before signing up and he continued buying grain after the war. Ernie married Hilma Dobler and they raised one daughter. GIBB, Russell WWII Russell was born in Viscount, SK on May 25, 1917. He joined the Army and served in World War II. He married Elsie Rusbridge while serving overseas and they raised two children. Russell is now a retired postman living in Saskatoon, SK. He is a cousin to Ernie and Charlie Gibb. GIBSON, Stanwill John WWII Stanwill was born on February 26, 1919 in Woodstock, Ontario, the son of Charles and Annie (Hodgson) Gibson. His parents and siblings came to a farm in Saskatchewan’s Coderre district. He enlisted in a Regina-based Army reserve unit in November 1940 and then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Hamilton, ON on February 24, 1942 as Aircraftsman. He earned his pilot wings in 1943, was commissioned as Pilot Officer and went overseas. He was a member of 419 (Moose) Squadron, flying a Halifax bomber over Germany when he was killed on January 29, 1944. Stanwill is interred in the Berlin 1939-45 War Cemetery near Berlin. A Saskatchewan geo-memorial, Gibson Islands, perpetuates his sacrifice.
