The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 103 ERNST, Vernon S. “Vern” WWII Vern was born on December 7, 1937 on the family farm near Watrous, Saskatchewan. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy on April 1, 1955, served on the high seas on both the Atlantic and Pacific, and left the service on April 1, 1960 as an Able Seaman. He has since worked as a rural municipal policeman in several municipalities. In 1994, he was with the police department of the Rural Municipality of Vanscoy, SK. While working in Flin Flon, MB, he served for a time with a Royal Canadian Engineers unit in the Reserve Army. Vern married and had two sons and one daughter. EROS, Robbin Paul Gasue WWII Robbin was born in Cupar, SK on August 26, 1921. He joined the Royal Canadian Forces on May 29, 1941 and served as a Gunner with the 2/Anti-tank Regiment in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany from February 2, 1952 to June 9, 1954. He was discharged on January 7, 1946 and received the Dutch Medal of Remembrance. In his retirement years, he lived in Viscount, SK and was a member of RCL Viscount Branch 127. Robbin passed away on February 24, 2006. EWEN, Ben WWII Ben joined the Royal Canadian Navy, where he served as an ordinary seaman. His brothers, Jack and Gillian, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After his discharge, he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and participated in the Musical Ride while stationed in Ottawa. He died in a car accident in Toronto, Ontario.
