A fisherman before enlistment in 1917, Heath was married to Bertha May Francis and the father of their son Dick. He served with 105th Overseas Draft Battalion, 13th Reserve Battalion, and 23rd Reserve (NB) Battalion in Canada, the United Kingdom and France during World War I. After being sent to France in November 1917, Heath lost his life due to enemy fire on August 18, 1918. He is buried at Wood Cemetery in Marcelcave, France. MacLEOD, George Garfield WWII Sapper George Garfield MacLeod was killed in action in 1944. He was born on February 22, 1910 in Fairview to his parents Hector and Jane (Jessie) (MacFadyen) MacLeod. His siblings: Annie, John, Margaret and Pearl. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Engineers during the Second World War. Antwerp, Belgium had been the site of battle during both the First and Second World Wars. The city was held during World War I from 1914 until Armistice in 1918. German Forces returned to Belgium in 1940. Germany occupied Antwerp until it was liberated by the Allied Forces on September 4, 1944. The town and port were secured in September, but it was weeks before the approaches from the North Sea could be cleared of German resistance. George MacLeod was serving with the 10th Field Park Coy of the Canadian Engineers when he was killed on November 23, 1944. He was 34 years old. He is buried in the Schoonselfhof Cemetery in Wilrijk, a suburb of Antwerp, Belgium. The site is 57 kilometres from Brussels. George MacLeod is commemorated on Page 375 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance. MacLEAN, Ronald William WWII Ronald was born in Alberton District, the son of Henry Willis and Violet Jean (Johnson) MacLean. He enlisted in the Army on February 8, 1945 and was discharged on October 6, 1945. He served as a Private in the #6 District Depot in Canada.
