421 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND A Mother's Love He came back with eyes that didn't speak The boy she knew was now so weak Not in body, but in his soul The light inside him was no longer whole She held him close just like before But the boy she knew had gone to war His smile was gone, his voice was low The silence between them said all she needed to know The nightmares came when night would fall She’d hear him gasp, but he'd say nothing at all His body tensed, his hands would shake A war inside him, not even she could break Her son was lost, but still, he stood A broken soul, misunderstood She wanted to help him, make him whole She would always love him, heart and soul She reached for him but he slipped away His heart was trapped in memories he couldn't escape Her touch was soft, her love a plea To mend the little boy she still could see She spoke of her little boy from before The one untouched by the weight of war Of moments when his world was so bright Hoping to bring that boy back to light She waits in hope, though time is long Her love is still so strong She holds his hand and whispers still "I'll love you through this, l always will." In time, together, they'll find a new way to cope They'll work on healing these war wounds and bringing new hope Though her son may be changed, the bond remains A mother's love, eternal and unchained
