417 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND The Silence We Carry In fields where poppies softly sway, Whispers of names the wind must say. No bugles call, no trumpets cry, Just silence for those who dared to die. They left their homes with heads held high, Trading youth for a distant sky, Where clouds of fear and thunder loomed, And courage bloomed where hope was doomed. In trenches deep, the earth embraced Their dreams and youth, all laid to waste. But still, they marched through pain and fire, Held close by a brother's unbroken desire. Some met the dawn with weary eyes, Others in darkness said goodbyes. Yet in their wake, a promise laid - A debt we owe, a price they paid. Now, time moves on like falling leaves, But we stand still, with hearts that grieve. For every life that war once claimed, We carry silence, unashamed. So let the poppies sway and bend, In honor of those who have bled Let every heartbeat in our chest, Carry their silence, and lay them to rest.
