329 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND RUMBLE, Robert Mons Robert was born in King Township, Ontario on September 14, 1920. He attended Aurora High School between 1933 and 1937 where he was captain of the basketball team. He worked at the Canadian Bank of Commerce in King, Little Britain and Keswick between 1937 and 1941 until he enlisted in the Air Force (Regular Force) on December 5, 1941. Training started at Belleville then Oshawa, finishing in Centralia where Robert received his wings from No. 9 SFTS on November 20, 1942. Rumble was attached to RAF Squadron 619 on September 23, 1943. On February 16, 1944, Rumble was pilot of Lancaster DV330 on a bombing mission over Berlin with 20 aircraft detailed. DV330 took off from Coningsby and crashed in the Baltic. RUSHTON, John Dean John was born in Elderslie, Bruce, Ontario on May 20, 1922. He enlisted in the Air Force (Regular Force) in January 1941 and served with 417 City of Windsor Squadron in Suez, North Africa, Malta and Italy during World War II until his release in March 1945. John resided in Port Elgin, Ontario from 1970 until his death on February 19, 1975. RUTHIG, William Alfred William was born in New Hamburg, Ontario, on September 5, 1895, to John W. and Pauline (Ritz) along with one brother, Alfred, and one sister, Emma E. Prior to World War I, Alfred was teaching school when he received the draft notice to report for duty. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in Toronto on April 23, 1918, with the 1st Canadian Tank Battalion. He was taken to the University of Toronto (Officers Training Corps) for evaluation, returned to basic training, then shipped overseas to England (Bovington Camp) where on November 27, 1918, he was hospitalized with influenza. On February 5, 1919, he was taken to Camp Ripon, 2nd Command Corp for duty with Khaki University. On July 16, 1919, he was attached to 1st Battalion (Canadian Tank Corp). On July 18, 1919, he boarded the HMTS for Canada and was discharged on July 31, 1919. William returned to his profession, teaching school in New Hamburg. William died in 1895 and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery.
