313 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PELLETIER, Alexandre Ferdinand “Andrew” Alexandre was born inWaubaushene, Ontario on January 11, 1898, the son of Joseph and Marie (Moreau) Pelletier. On May 23, 1916, Andrew, as he was known, enlisted in the Army with the 177th Battalion (Simcoe Foresters), Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was eighteen years old and single. He listed his trade as mill worker, and had no previous military experience. Private Pelletier sailed on the SS Metagamato arrive in Liverpool, England on May 14, 1917. After some training in England, he landed in France on December 8, 1917, assigned as sapper to the 123rd Canadian Pioneer Battalion (Royal Grenadiers), later transferring to the 7th Canadian Engineers where he served for the remainder of the war. He returned to Canada for demobilization and was discharged on March 28, 1919. He settled in Victoria Harbour, Ontario and joined Canada Steamship Lines, sailing the Great Lakes until retiring in 1965. He married Marguerite Vallee with whom he raised a family. He was a charter member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 523 Victoria Harbour and was a member for 38 years. Andrew passed away on March 16, 1989. He is buried in the Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery in Victoria Harbour. PENNEY, Dennis Karl Dennis was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on December 25, 1967. He enlisted on January 3, 1988, and served in all three elements as a cook mostly in the Navy (Regular Force). He served aboard HMCS Huron, Provider, St. John’s, and Winnipegand with RCD, 2CER and 1RCR. He served at 12 Wing Shearwater, NS and Petawawa, ON. He served two tours at CFB Esquimalt and fourteen years in CFB Halifax. Dennis also served in the 1991 Gulf War, 2003 Gulf War and in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1994-1995. He was released on March 31, 2016. He currently resides in Kanata and is a three-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Kanata Branch 638. PEPPER, Robert Walter “Bob” Robert was born on April 17, 1935, in Raleigh Township, Kent County, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy (Regular Force) in 1956 and served until 1962 as armours mate and barber on HMCS Assiniboine, HMCS Crescent, and HMCS Huron. Robert’s service brought him to Canada’s east coast and Europe where he found his enjoyment of travel which he continued into his retirement. Robert’s service in the Royal Canadian Navy has been a point of pride which he has been happy to share with others and in his continued support of the Royal Canadian Legion Metropolitan Branch 594 for the past 55 years.
