311 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PASSMORE, Harry Kelvin Harry was born on December 10, 1907, in Teeswater, Ontario. He moved with his family to Elora, Ontario in the late 1920s. He spent the depression years working at whatever he could find. He worked in a limestone quarry, delivered bread, and assisted with the harvest in the west. Harry volunteered in the army on August 10, 1942, at the age of 34. He was assigned to the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals (SIGMN). In March 1943, he was deployed overseas to the United Kingdom and then to France in June 1944. He drove heavy utility trucks transporting supplies and troops. As well as France, he served in Belgium. He returned to the UK in November 1945. Harry received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945, and the France and Germany Star. He was released from the army on February 13, 1946, and returned to Elora where he raised a family of three. He worked in the furniture industry in Elora until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Elora Branch 229 for seventeen years. Harry passed away on November 10, 1992. PATON, William Thornton William was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 4, 1921. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on July 6, 1942 and served in Sicily, Italy, and Malta with #1 CORU, RCOC, #7 Platoon, #2 Company until his release on November 26, 1945. He was residing in London, Ontario in 1947 and was a 40-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Victory Branch 317. William passed away on May 19, 1991. PAUL, James Cameron “Jim” Jim was born on March 24, 1938, in Sudbury, Ontario, to Cameron and Clara Paul. He was educated at Sudbury Technical School and in 1954, at the age of sixteen, he joined the East Coast Royal Canadian Navy apprentice program specializing as an Ordnance Technician (Weapons System). Stationed in Halifax, Jim spent most of the next sixteen years at sea travelling the world. He served on the following HMCS ships: Cape Breton, Haida, Iroquois, Assiniboine, Crescent and Columbia. He trained crews for the 280 class ships on missile systems at Raytheon, Canada. Jim retired as CPOI in August 1974. After retirement from the military, Jim started a second career with Long Mfg. in Cambridge as their maintenance Supervisor and retired sixteen years later as Plant Manager. His hobbies and interests have included managing minor and major Pee Wee hockey, cottaging in Honey Harbour, Ontario, woodworking, volunteering at Nithview LTC and travelling. Jim and his wife Linda Kress live in Wilmont Centre, Ontario. Jim has two sons, Richard and Dennis. He resided inWilmot Township from 2020 to 2025.
