287 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McGILLIVRAY, Donald Gordon Donald, son of James Peter and Mary Agnes McGillivray, was born in Glenelg on September 26, 1918. He attended Bunessan School until he moved with his parents to near Dromore in Egremont Township. He married Dorothy Irene Taylor in July 1940 and had one daughter. Gordon enlisted in May 1942 and went overseas in September of the same year. He had gone to France on the first day of the invasion with the Stormont, Dundas and Glengary Highlanders, RCIC, one of spearhead regiments in the first drive towards Berlin. Donald was killed in action on July 8, 1944. He is buried in Beny-sur-Mer CanadianWar Cemetery in Caen, France. Over 2 000 Canadians are buried there as a result of early fighting following the landing at Normandy. McGUIRE, Philip Francis Philip was born in Elmwood (Malcolm), Brant Township, Ontario, on February 19, 1920. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on August 22, 1941 with the Royal Canadian Corps of Engineers, 12th Field Company. He was shipped out to England and served in Sicily, Italy, Holland, Belgium, and Germany until the end of World War II. His service for the nation had taken him to the worst place at the worst of times. He was released on October 15, 1945. Philip was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Chesley Branch and also served as President and Past President. He resided in Chesley from September 1948 until his passing on July 30, 2005. McINDOO, Isaac John Isaac was born in Rosemount, Ontario on April 2, 1899, the son of William and Margaret (Chambers) McIndoo. On February 7, 1916, he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in Waubaushene, Ontario with the 157th Overseas Battalion (Simcoe Foresters), Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was eighteen years old and single. He listed his trade as sawmill worker and had no previous military experience. Private McIndoo sailed on the SS Metagama to arrive in England on May 14, 1917. After some training in England, he landed in France on April 9, 1918, assigned to the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion (2CMR), part of the 3rd Canadian Division. On October 9, 1918, he suffered a gunshot wound to his back and as a result was invalided to Canada. He was officially discharged on August 8, 1919. Returning to Ontario in 1925, John married Luella May Brennan in Parry Sound, Ontario. By 1935, he became a founding member of what is today Royal Canadian Legion Coldwater Branch 270. Isaac passed away in 1964 and is buried in the Coldwater Cemetery.
