279 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McCAUL, Richard “John” John was born on December 7, 1946, in Smiths Falls, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy (Regular Service) on June 29, 1966 and served on the Military Tattoo in 1967 during the Centennial year after he completed Basic Training. He then served on the high seas aboard the aircraft carrier HMCS Bonaventure(known to many as the “Bonnie”) serving as a Stoker. On August 11, 1968, John left the Navy to start a career in mechanics and he retired in Golden Lake where he resided with his wife Carolyn for over 40 years. Together they had two children, Tiffany and Christopher, and 5 grandchildren. John passed away on October 23, 2024. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for almost 28 years. John held the office of President of Legion Branch 353 Eganville for four consecutive terms. He was also a Life Member of Branch 72 Pembroke and the recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. John loved serving on Pembroke Legion’s Colour Party as he felt it was an honour to do so. McCAULEY, Lorne E. Lorne was born on December 12, 1920, in Brussels, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on December 19, 1940 and served with the 12th Canadian Army Tank Battalion, Three Rivers Regiment in Italy during World War II. Sergeant McCauley was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion St. Marys Branch 236. Lorne passed away on June 12, 1995. McCLENAGHAN, John Harrison John was born on February 18, 1923, in Cache Bay, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1942 and served with the 100th Canadian Armoured Battalion, Tank Corps, and Wireless Wing. He was sent to Portage la Prairie, MB in December 1942; Camp Borden, ON in February 1943; and London, England in 1943. His knee was damaged in an exercise trip to France resulting in an operation to remove cartilage. He served in England for balance of war in the Royal Canadian Service Corps before returning to Canada in February 1946. His Irish bride arrived May 31, 1946. John died on June 16, 1946 when he drowned while fishing from a canoe during his honeymoon.
