257 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MacMILLAN, Angus Rodney Angus, son of Lizzie Aldcorn and William MacMillan, was born on August 12, 1922, and grew up on the Southline Artemesia Township, Grey County, Ontario. He attended S.S. #7 Old Durham Road School, Flesherton and Shelburne High Schools prior to taking on an apprenticeship in Toronto. During this time, he married Bernadette Despins. They raised their family in Weston with Angus employed at Cochrane-Dunlop Hardware Ltd. He retired as General Manager with thirty years of service. Angus enlisted with the Royal CanadianArtillery, 2nd Survey Regiment in April 1943. He served in World War II in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe and was released from service in February 1946 in Toronto. He earned the 1939-1945 Star (Service Active Operations), 1939-1945 Victory Medal (Full time Service), Defence Medal (Service in Britain) and Voluntary Enlistment Medal with Clasp (Overseas Service). He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 213 and received a 50-year membership pin. Angus passed away on July 5, 2003. MacMILLAN, Donald Sneath “Don” Don, son of Lizzie and William MacMillan, was born on February 14, 1919, in Artemesia Township, Grey County, Ontario. He attended Old Durham Road School, RR #3 Priceville, then Flesherton, High School. In 1940, he was employed by International Nickel in Frood Mine. While in Sudbury, he married Norma Antler, they raised their family in Toronto and retired to Northern Grey County. Don enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps on January 16, 1942, in Sudbury and was deployed to the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He earned the 1939-1945 Star (Service Active Operations), France and Germany Star (Normandy Invasion DDay), Victory Medal (Full time service), Defence Medal (Service in Britain), and the Voluntary Enlistment Medal with Clasp (Overseas service) and was released February 15, 1946. Don was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Chatsworth Branch 464 and received a 50-year membership pin in 2000. Don passed away on July 24, 2003. MacRINER, Alfred R. Alfred was born in Westham, Somerset, England on January 1, 1900. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on November 23, 1916 and served the Theatres of Canada, Britain and France, including the horrific battle at Passchendaele as a gunner. Alfred spent three months in a Manchester hospital after injuring his hand while grooming the horses. Since he could no longer serve as a gunner, he was employed as a men’s orderly from November 1918 to May 1919. After receiving an honourable discharge from duty, Alfred returned home to Canada and became employed as a machinist in Toronto, ON. He had four children. Alfred passed away on April 10, 1975.
