253 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MacARTHUR, John A. “Jack” Jack was born in 1919 in Priceville, Artemesia Township, Grey County, Ontario. He enrolled with the Air Force (Regular Force) in Gander, Newfoundland in 1942 and discharged from service in 1945. He married Kathleen Wanless from Port Credit, Ontario. They had a family of three; namely Robert, Mary and Janet. Unfortunately, he suffered from a cerebral vascular accident in his fifties. He passed away in 1979 and is buried in Park Lawn Cemetery in Etobicoke, Ontario. MacARTHUR, Lorne McFadgen Lorne was born in Priceville, Ontario in 1921. He was the son of Minnie andArchie MacArthur, one of five children. After working in Toronto for a short time he enlisted with the 48th Highlanders of Canada in February 1942. Lorne received his basic training in Guelph, then Base Borden. He then left for overseas in June of the same year. Lorne was wounded in the Sicilian Campaign and was moved to British North Africa for hospitalization. He returned to action in Italy. Lorne died on October 19, 1943, due to an infection from his injuries and is buried in the Moro River Canadian War Cemetery in Italy. Lorne was the first casualty of World War II from the Priceville area. A great number of friends from the Priceville area mourned the gallant and popular young soldier. He also had two brothers, Clarence and Jack, who served with the RCAF. MacDOUGALL, Donald John “Tuffy” Donald was born on September 25, 1925, in Minto, Ontario. On March 29, 1941, he enlisted in the B Troop of the 100th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery in Guelph, Ontario. In July 1941, the Battery moved to Camp Sussex, NB for training and sailed for England in November 1941. From there they went on to Colchester for more training, as well as Scotland for firing camps and combined operations. He served as Sergeant in England, France, Holland, Germany and Belgium. After the May 8, 1945 Cease Fire became official, the 100th Battery was given the job of guarding a prisoner of war camp for some time before they returned to Canada in June 1946. Following his discharge in June 1946, Donald worked for the town of Minto as a grader operator, plumber and later as the Town Superintendent of Public Works. He received the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award in 2001 and received the Bicentennial Medal from the Premier of Ontario in 1984. He served two terms as President of The Royal Canadian Legion Harriston Branch 296 of which he had been a member for over 60 years. Donald passed away on January 21, 2007.
