247 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LIDKEA, John W. M. John was born on November 13, 1926 in North Bay, Ontario. At the age of 25, he joined the Navy and completed basic training in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. He was a stoker on the HMCS Saint Marie which sailed in a convoy to Ireland, Panama and later Vancouver. John was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Powassan Branch and the Dundalk Branch after moving there in 1961. John passed away on April 5, 2014. LIDSTONE, Harvey John Harvey was born on October 12, 1898, in Laird Township east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to John and Elizabeth Lidstone. He was enrolled in the Army (Regular Force) with the 227th Battalion “Men of the North” on May 19, 1916, and was later transferred to the 102nd Battalion, British Columbia Regiment. Private Harvey Lidstone was killed in action on October 30, 1917, and is buried in the Tyncot Cemetery near Ypres, Belgium. His name is on a plaque in the Knox Presbyterian church in Laird Township east of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. LILLIMAN, Franklin Seels Franklin was born on October 26, 1922, in London, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and served as a pilot but spent three years in Tofino, BC as a control tower operator during World War II. After his discharge in 1945, he worked a teacher in London, Ontario for 35 years. Franklin passed away on February 22, 2012.
