245 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LEMIRE, Sylvain J. P. Sylvain was born in Fort Chambly, Quebec on April 21, 1958. He enrolled in August 1976 as a non-commissioned member and graduated basic training with Platoon 7635 at Canadian Forces Recruit School St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC. He started his career as an Instruments Electrical Technician with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He worked on the Canadair CP107 Argus and subsequently the Lockheed CP-140 Aurora at Canadian Force Base (CFB) Summerside, PEI and CFB Greenwood, NS. In 1982, he was accepted at Acadia University and thus selected for Officer Training. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, he underwent the Aerospace Engineer Officer Training and was posted back to CFB Greenwood with the Aurora Software Development Unit to maintain the Automated Test Equipment Software. He was then selected to a Post Graduate Program at Carleton University graduating in 1993 with his Master of Science in Information Systems and posted toAircraft Maintenance Management Information System at National Defence Headquarters Ottawa. His last posting was as the Bell CH-146 Griffon Canadian Forces Utility Tactical Transport Helicopter Software Review/acceptance Officer; from there he took the Force Reduction Program in November 1996. He resides in Apple Hill and is a seven-year active member with the Claude Nunney V.C. Memorial Branch 544 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LEONARD, Dan Alvin Dan was born on August 30, 1944, in Windsor, Ontario. Dan joined the Navy in 1960 and served on the HMCS Kootenay during the Cold War. Dan also served as a medic and at discharge in 1963 was a Leading Seaman. Dan was injured at sea with a ruptured kidney, spending two months in the hospital. The kidneys are still causing him problems. Dan is a member of the RCNA Windsor and a seven-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Metropolitan Branch 594. Dan plays an integral part of the Colour Party and has often been “Santa’s stand-in” at Branch Children’s and Seniors events. Dan lives in LaSalle, Ontario. LEROUX, John O. John was born in Pembroke, Ontario on October 22, 1931. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on December 4, 1948, and served with the Service Corps in Korea. He was discharged in June 1957. John is the proud recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Coronation Medal and also the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medal. As proud community member, they named the Stittsville Community Centre after him. (Johnny Leroux Stittsville CommunityArena). Since September 1965, he has been residing in Carleton County and is a 49-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Stittsville Branch 618.
