227 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KELLY, Norman P. Norman was born on June 5, 1919, in Windsor, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on October 2, 1941 and trained as a driver/mechanic and his main service during World War II was hauling supplies and ammunition to the front line troops. Private Kelly was among the Canadians who broke the Hitler Line at Monastery Hill in Italy and who fought in house combat in the liberation of Holland. He returned home in January 1946 on the Queen Elizabeth I. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, War Medal 1939-1945, Defense Medal, France and Germany Star, Italy Star and 1939-1945 Star. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Paisley Branch 295 for 36 years. Norman passed away on September 1, 2004. KENNEDY, William J. William was born on April 23, 1887, in Newmarket, Ontario. He joined the Canadian Army in September 1914 and served as a stretcher bearer with the 2nd Battalion, 1st Division in England, France and Belgium. He was wounded in the right arm and used to say it only made him quit playing the piano. William passed away in April 1970. KILPATRICK, John Ross McLennan John was born on January 17, 1924, in Ottawa, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 and served on HMCS Restigouche and HMCS Crescent in the North Atlantic. He was discharged in 1945 and was awarded the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Fort York Branch 165 for 20 years. John passed away on March 8, 2014.
