He attended Aurora High School where he was pitcher of the 1933 Aurora Blue Ribbon Baseball Team. Kay graduated University of Toronto in commerce and finance until he enlisted with the RCAF (Regular Force) on January 5, 1940. Trained at Camp Borden and Trenton, Harry received his wings in September 1939 then returned to Camp Borden in 1941 as Flight Commander. He married Ruth Nora Cumming on February 8, 1941. In 1942, Harry was promoted to Squadron Leader and sent overseas to Empire Central Flying School. On January 12, 1943, Harry was navigator on a heavy bomber detailed to attack Turin. Shortly after the bombs were released, the aircraft stalled and fell into a spin but was recovered. Despite bad weather and poor visibility, Harry navigated the aircraft on another course around the Alps which resulted in the safe return of the aircraft after flying some 900 miles with one of its engines disabled. In April 1944, he was attached to 431 Squadron RCAF then transferred to 428 Squadron RCAF. Kay was pilot of Lancaster KB770 which was engaged in bombing operations when it was shot down January 28, 1945, over Stuttgart, Germany. KEEHN, Ewald “Wally” Ewald, the son of Emil Reinhold Keehn and Julianna Holtz, was born in Emerson, Manitoba on October 24, 1915. Ewald known to his family as Wally enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba on April 9, 1942. Not too much is known of Ewald’s military service other than he took his training at the A.I.T.C. – A- 13 Canadian Infantry Training Centre at Valcartier, Quebec. From his military medals: the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Volunteer Service with clasp and War Medal 1939-1945, we have some idea of his WWII service. Ewald as with manyVeterans was not inclined to talk about what he went through. His brothers Pte Albert and Trpr Robert Keehn also served. Robert died in a motorcycle accident on May 29, 1945, and was buried in the Groesbeek CanadianWar Cemetery, Nijmegen Holland. Returning to Canada, Ewald worked on the railroad in Manitoba and Sault Ste. Marie Ontario before moving to Oakwood and Bobcaygeon, Ontario. Ewald was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sir Sam Hughes Branch 67 in Lindsay, Ontario. At age 60, Ewald (Wally) Keehn passed away on April 20, 1976. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lindsay Branch 64 for four years. KELL, Frederick Harry Frederick was born on March 19, 1893, in Nottawasaga Township, Ontario.
