207 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ILER, Clifford J. Clifford was born on April 21, 1925 in Windsor, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on August 26, 1943. He was accepted at HMCS Hunter as an Ordinary Seaman on January 23, 1944. After training, he was sent to HMCS Naden in BC and served on the minesweeper HMCS Quatsino, among others. By February 1946, he was sent back to HMCS Hunter in Windsor, Ontario where he was discharged and demobilized. Clifford married, built a house, had four children, and worked at General Motors Transmission Plant in Windsor for 38 years. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Captain Brien Branch 201 for 52 years. Clifford passed away on February 2, 2012. INGOLD, Irvin Irvin was born on December 1, 1906, in Wilmot Township to Andrew H. and Bertha (Lachman) Ingold along with one sister, Verna. Irvin married Dorothy Elizabeth (Otto), and they were raising three children: George, Helen and Patrick. Irvin was working on road construction when, on May 23, 1940, he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) for World War II in London, Ontario with the Royal Canadian Engineers. After 3 years, 4 months, and 136 days of training and fighting in the trenches, a serious injury sidelined him to the hospitals, better healthcare was sought in Canada. Irvin’s death on October 6, 1943, was due to pulmonary tuberculosis. He was buried in Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg. His service and life are commemorated on page 173 of the Second World War Book of Remembrance in the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Irvin’s name has been inscribed on the New Hamburg Cenotaph and remembered by a family member, namely Edward Ingold. INKSTER, James H. James was born on April 27, 1918, in Bruce Township, Ontario. He enlisted in the CanadianArmy onAugust 11, 1943 and served as a gunner and driver for chaplains during World War II. After he was discharged on May 21, 1946, he got a loan through the Veterans’ Land Act and bought a farm in the Tiverton area. He married and had three children. Upon retirement, he moved to Tiverton, Ontario. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Ferris Branch 430 for 25 years. James passed away on December 22, 1998.
