205 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HULLEY, Robert Robert was born on April 18, 1887, near Walton in McKillop Township, Huron County. He was two months shy of his thirtieth birthday when he enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on February 2, 1917 in Winnipeg. He joined the 43rd Corps of the Manitoba Regimental Depot. He lived in Lauder, Manitoba at the time. He had gone west as a young man. He sailed from Halifax on November 26, 1917 on the SS Megantic and arrived in England on December 7. He was with the 251st Overseas Battalion COMF. He served in France and suffered a gunshot wound in the shoulder in October 1918. He was returned to Canada on the SS Olympic in January 1919 and was assigned to the No. 1 District Depot in London, Ontario. He was discharged on February 11, 1919 in London due to demobilization. He returned to the Walton area and married his wife Ella in September 1919. They farmed and raised a family of five, one daughter, Madeline, and four sons, Robert, Melvin, Francis and Calvin. Robert passed away on January 31, 1963 and is buried in Brussels Cemetery. HUTCHINSON, William F. William was born in Leicester, England on January 9, 1982. He joined the Canadian Army and served with the Canadian Infantry, Central Ontario Regiment during World War I. William was killed in action at the Battle of the Somme on September 19, 1916 when a bomb exploded in the trench he was in. His brother was nearby but survived with shrapnel injuries to his head requiring a steel plate. IISE, Emmanuel James Emmanuel was born in Birmingham, England on June 8, 1895. He enlisted in the Army in 1916 and served in France and in England duringWorldWar I. Emmanuel was gassed while serving in France. He was discharged in 1918 and returned home. Emmanuel lived in Chesley, Ontario until his death on October 10, 1960.
