199 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HOLMES, Mervin Mervin was born in Owen Sound on August 26, 1960. He served with the CAF Army Reserve during two stints, 1977-1993 and 2000-2008. The units he served with were the Grey Simcoe Foresters and Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment. He currently resides in Paisley, Ontario and enjoys life as a grandfather. He received the Quilt of Valour on November 13, 2024, and serves on the Executive at Paisley Branch 295 of The Royal Canadian Legion. HOLTBY, Murray P. Murray was born on August 6, 1919, in Manchester, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served in England as a Flight Lieutenant during World War II. After his discharge in 1945, he attended the Ontario Agriculture College in Guelph, ON and became a successful dairy famer for fifty years. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Port Perry Branch 419. Murray passed away on October 29, 1998. HOLTBY, William Byron Byron was born on January 26, 1922, in Port Perry, Ontario. He enlisted in the CanadianArmy onAugust 10, 1942 and served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps as a Staff Sergeant during World War II. He was an instructor for the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps and travelled across Canada. Following his discharge on October 1, 1946, he continued to work on the family farm which he took over in 1948. He was awarded the War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Byron passed away on May 11, 1994.
