Military Service Recognition Book 544 ONTARIO COMMAND WYONCH, Myrtle Ellen Myrtle was born in Tobermory, Ontario on September 24, 1925. She enlisted in the Army on October 10, 1944 and served with the Canadian Women’s Army Corp as Secretary at the CWAC Headquarters in Ottawa during World War II. After discharge on June 27, 1946, Corporal Wyonch returned to Tobermory where she and her brother operated the Tobermory Trucking Company. She received the Volunteer Service Medal. She was a member of Tobermory Legion Branch 290. Myrtle passed away on June 18, 1989. YANTZ, Henry Alfred Alfred was born on July 30, 1915 in Rosedale, Waterloo Township, Ontario. He enlisted on June 15, 1940 and served with the 1st Battalion Highland Light Infantry in Galt during World War II. Like many other members, was transferred to another unit after arriving in England. He served in the battles in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was killed in action on November 3, 1943 in Molise, Italy. His body was later transferred to the Moro River Canadian War Cemetery in the locality of San Donato in the Commune of Ortona, Province of Chieti, Italy. Alfred received the 1939-45 Italy Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and Defence Medal 1939-45. YANCHUS, Francis Joseph Francis was born in Waterloo, Ontario on May 1, 1921. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and served in North Africa, Southern Italy (Naples), and London, England during World War II. He served as a medic throughout most of the war years and was discharged in 1945. Francis passed away on May 8, 1986.
