543 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WOOLEY, Fred Fred was born in Bruce Mines, Ontario on February 1, 1923. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Canada during World War II. He was discharged in 1946. Fred has been a member of Bruce Mines Legion Branch 211 for 66 years. WRIGHT, Gordon D. Gordon was born in Prince Rupert, British Columbia on October 11, 1920. He enlisted in the Navy on April 3, 1940 and served on HMCS Festubert (Gate vessel 17), HMCS Trail and HMCS Lindsay in Canada and the high seas during World War II. Gordon was a Navy signalman by trade, based on the east coast in Halifax. He spent the war onboard a pair of corvettes escorting ships across the Atlantic. He was discharged on June 8, 1945. After the war, Gordon and his young wife, Libby, settled in the Muskoka area of Ontario. Gordon passed away in 1994. WRIGHT, Donald W. Donald was born in Ingersol, Ontario on November 18, 1921. He enlisted in the Army in 1939 and served with the Pert Regiment, First Special Service Force, 2nd Canadian Parachute Battalion in Italy and Holland during World War II. Donald spent most of World War II with the First Special Service Force, also known as the “Devil’s Brigade”. He was discharged in 1945. Donald passed away on July 27, 2006. Recently, the US Government issued the Congressional Gold Medal to members/descendants of the First Special Service Force. They were also issued the Combat Infantry Badge by order of the Secretary of the Army.
