539 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WISEMAN, Joseph Alexander Joseph was born on October 15, 1942 in Windsor, Ontario. Joseph enlisted in the Army on November 6, 1959 at the age of 17, joining the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada till 1968; when the Unit became a Reserve Unit. Until Joseph retired in 1985 with 26 years of service; he served with the 2 Canadian Guards from 1968 to 1970, 3 Royal Canadian Regiment from 1970 to 1977; 2 Service Battalion Transport Company from 1977 to 1983 and 2 Field Ambulance from 1983 to 1985. Joseph was stationed in Germany, Cyprus and various Bases in Canada during his Armed Forces career. M/Cpl Joseph Wiseman, now retired, divides his time between golfing, family and gardening. He has been a member of Petawawa Legion Branch 517 for 34 years. WOELFLE, Donovan R. “Don” Don was born in Preston, Ontario on February 10, 1925 to Ralph and Kathleen Woelfle and has two sisters, Geraldine and Margaret. His education was received from Sudabby School in Kitchener. He joined the Merchant Navy in June 1942 and served on the High Seas as a Gunner on three Merchant ships (Alder Park, Stanley Park and Noranda Park) during World War II. The Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships (DEMS) carried explosives, high octane gas and other extremely dangerous material, all necessary to the war. These ships were the main target for u-boats as they crossed the Atlantic to various ports in the world. Don crossed over three times and travelled to many ports. While off the coast of South Africa, the ship that they were on lost its prop and the ship was unable to move. After remaining on board for five weeks, the Navy finally rescued them. Don was discharged in 1945. After his three years in the service, Don returned home, married Vern (Dmytruk) and raised three boys, Robert, Craig and Dean. He worked in the brewery industry for 38 years, retired and is still enjoying life to the fullest with his family, his friends and his 58 years as a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #530 Waterloo. WISEMAN, Joseph Arthur Joseph was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 17, 1915. Joseph grew up in Windsor, Ontario where he joined the 11th F.A.C.A.M.C. as an ambulance assistant/orderly from 1932 to 1936. He enlisted in active service on December 2, 1942 with The Royal Canadian Air Forces and served during World War II from 1942 to 1945 as a Nursing Orderly and later Hospital Assistant. Joseph was awarded CVSM with ribbon Clasp and Maple Leaf. LAC Wiseman was stationed in Canada, east coast only, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia and Goose Bay, Labrador. After his release on November 20, 1945, he transferred to RCAF Reserves and returned to Windsor, Ontario to his family and his former employer Ford Motor Company. Joseph passed away on November 4, 1994.
