505 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WITHAM, Beverley G. “Bev” Bev was born in Waterford, Ontario on February 2, 1924. He enlisted in the Army in October of 1943 and served as ‘Stoker 1’ in the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve aboard the H.M.C.S. Riverton during World War II. He was stationed in Newfoundland for service on the North Atlantic. He was discharged in November of 1945. Bev is presently retired in Villa Nova, Norfolk County after a long career in the automobile business. He is a member of the Legion Branch 123. WOODS, Mervin Mervin was born in Meldrum Bay, Ontario on April 8, 1916. He enlisted in the Navy on September 1, 1942 and served in the Atlantic Ocean from Canada to England on Corvettes Mayflower, Bittersweet, and Leaside during World War II. He was discharged on January 12, 1946. Mervin served as a Mayor and Councillor for sixteen years and helped found the MICC golf course. He was a member of the Western Manitoulin Legion Branch 514. Mervin passed away on September 8, 2001. WOODHOUSE, John Thomas John was born in London, England on June 30, 1872. He enlisted in the Army on September 22, 1914 and served as a Corporal with the Seaforth Highlanders Scotland, 1st Contingent, 1st Brigade and 4th Battalion in Canada, England, France, Belgium and Germany during World War I. John was wounded in 1915 at Ypres. He was sent home in 1916 and was discharged on May 4, 1916. He served nineteen years with the Seaforth Highlanders in Inverness, Scotland. His medals include: 2 Sudan Medals, India Frontier, Egypt and Africa and nine Clasps, each representing a battle. He was awarded the 1914-1918 Star, Victory Medal and British War Medal. John passed away on August 14, 1925 and received a full military funeral congregated by Earl Haig.
