503 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WILSON, Donald R. Donald was born in Waterford, Ontario on February 22, 1909. He enlisted in the Army on June 1, 1940 and served in the Reserve Army during World War II. He spent summers training at the army camp in Petawawa, Ontario. He was discharged in June of 1942. Donald was a member of the Waterford Legion Branch 123 for 45 years before he passed away on March 20, 1973. WILSON, William Ford William was born in Wilsonville, Ontario on May 24, 1888. He enlisted in the Army on November 27, 1915 and served in England, France and Belgium with the 8th Army Brigade – 30th Battery, C.E.F. as a Gunner and later as a Bombardier during World War I from 1915 to 1919. Because of his experience with horses, in his family’s livery business, he drove horses pulling the cannons. He also participated in ground and trench warfare where he received gassing and a face wound from shrapnel during the Battle of Vimy Ridge. He was discharged on April 7, 1919. After the war, he was a patient in Sunnybrook Hospital many times, being treated for lung damage and cancerous face wound which caused him suffering until his death on September 9, 1961. On his discharge, Ford received a thank you letter from King George for his service, as well as a gold locket from the town of Waterford. His widow, Lillian Wilson, received The Silver Cross Medal from Queen Elizabeth II after his death. William was a member of the Waterford Legion Branch 123 for 33 years. WILSON, Henry R. Henry was born in Cardwell, Ontario on February 22, 1890. He enlisted in the Army on December 12, 1916 and served with the 225 Battalion, Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force in Holland, France and Germany during World War I. Henry was a Royal Canadian Legion member before he passed away on January 22, 1951.
